Stealing Ourselves Against Surprises

The French historian Hilaire Belloc once said, “The future always comes as a surprise.” And surprise is the greatest threat AI poses to working men and women over the next 5-10 years. You go home one evening feeling good about the contribution you made at work and go back into the office the next day to find your desk replaced by a machine and a cardboard box with your personal effects and a pink slip taped to it. That’s already happened to tens of thousands of people, and it will happen to millions more very soon. So, kudos to OECD which just launched its AI Policy Observatory (OECD.ai), an open site that among other things, makes public the data the organization has collected from individual countries on what exactly they’re doing (and not) to protect humans in the workplace.  #TheBookCirca2118 #AI
