The dithering approach to today’s two foremost crises has been on full display recently. The World Economic Forum has attracted business and government elites in Davos to focus on the challenge of global warming. (Never mind, most of them arrived in polluting private jets.) And at about the same time, the Google/Alphabet CEO was at a different conference in Brussels calling for regulation (by whom he didn’t say) of AI research in order to encourage innovation and curb misuse in such areas as deep fakes and facial recognition. Neither is likely to have much of an impact because these are intertwined crises that must be solved in tandem – like fighting a war on two fronts simultaneously – and doing that requires a level of commitment and courage today’s generation of elites has utterly failed to demonstrate. #TheBookCirca2118 #AI #globalWarming
